The Aspen Hill Community Festival

…that our club has been involved in for over 25 years? The program was
started by former club leaders, including Cathy Dobos, Kendra Wells and Edith Williams, who still bakes pumpkin cookies for the annual festival.
is an excellent leadership opportunity that teaches 4-Hers how to plan and lead
reading, health and craft activities for kids age 3-10. We are always looking for new ideas and help with leadership for Reading Buddies events, so please remember to contact Mrs. Luckabaugh to let her know which Reading Buddies programs you can help with. This is a great way to give children in our community a head-start in life!
The 27th
annual Aspen Hill Community Festival was held on Saturday, September 22, 2018
at the Aspen Hill Library. The festival
draws the whole community out with activities like puppet shows, a science
presentation, our Reading Buddies crafts, balloon animal twisters, and a
display of fire and rescue vehicles. Visitors could also get a free book from
Friends of the Library and a light-up arm band for pedestrian safety. We
anticipated a large turn-out, so we prepared lots of crafts for the event. The
weather was great, and we had a lot of visitors. Our club led five different
stations, including Nutrition Jeopardy, Paper Pumpkins, Spider Lollipops,
Decorate-a-Cookie and Turkey Handprints.
The stations were very popular with all the kids, especially the
Decorate-a-Cookie station! We are grateful to Mrs. Williams who baked and
individually wrapped 80 delicious pumpkin cookies for the kids to decorate! All
of the stations were really fun, and you could see that the kids were really
excited to do the activities. Everyone loved the Jeopardy prizes too!
We also set up an
information station about our club which included a tri-fold display and a
laptop with club photos along with a sign-up sheet for families interested in
our club. We are grateful to the Martin family who provided the laptop and made
a presentation to show a variety of activities that our club does. A few new
people are planning to visit our club, so be prepared to welcome visitors over
the next few meetings.
We thank the Reading
Buddies coordinators and all the volunteers who came out to help with crafts –
we couldn’t have done it without you! Almost every member of the club came out
at some point during the festival, and some families stayed for the whole
festival. We all had a fun time helping kids to make the crafts, and enjoyed
the camaraderie during the puppet shows and science presentation. We are
especially glad for all the people who helped with setup and clean-up – the
library was very impressed with our activities and speedy clean-up. It was a real
success and we look forward to having the next Aspen Hill Community Festival be
also fun, with the help of all our Lucky Clovers Club members!

September 22, 2018, 4-Hers went to the Aspen Hill Library and set up various
projects that people who went to the library could involve themselves in.
Some of these projects included decorating
Mrs. William's delicious cookies, drawing on turkeys on paper, a jeopardy game
related to food, and other fall-related activities. 4-Hers sponsored the club
through an elaborate slideshow and helped with advertising our club. After the
festival, the club members went downstairs and all participated in a program of
learning about science.
