A Hot Cocoa Lover’s Dream Come True: The 4-H Lucky Clover 2018 Holiday Potluck

In the mood for a hot chocolate, lots of food, and games? The 2018 Holiday Potluck offered all this and more! Hosted by our club on the 21st of December, this fun filled event has always been a club favorite. The potluck started at 6:30pm and went till 9pm. The members of the potluck planning committee arrived an hour earlier to set everything up. The potluck planning committee consisted of Penny Martin, Eric and Ayla Charlery, Mia Barnes, Anita and Meghan Justin, Bettina Mästle Torres, Katja Mästle Torres, and myself, Sabina Mästle Torres. Special thanks to Mrs. Martin for helping us!

After the setup of all the activities, we practiced our speeches and went through the whole pro-gram. The theme of the potluck was “Rudolf the red nosed reindeer”. Along with activities, there was also a winter wonderland themed photo wall and a hot chocolate station, filled with everything a hot cocoa lover’s heart yearns for.

We started the potluck with speeches honoring club members and thanking them as well as their parents for their hard work. After the speeches, we announced dinner. The dinner was a huge assortment of different foods. We then continue by acknowledging the juniors, intermedi-ates and senior members of our Lucky Clovers Club.

After dinner was over and speeches were made, we started the games. There were multiple activities to entertain both adults and children.

First came the blanket game. As the name suggests, this game involves a blanket and multiple people standing on it. The objective of game is to turn the blanket over without anyone’s feet touching the floor.
This was followed by the blind reindeer game. A blindfolded person (the rein-deer) is looking for the lost hat of San-ta. The reinder must crawl through a maze of objects on the floor (huge mountain, snow storm, ferocious tigers and dragons), avoiding dangers, while being guided, -or misguided-, by the rest of the participants! He or she must reach the end of the maze and retrieve the hat! Next year, we might make the parents do this while being lead on by their children!

Last, there was a song sing off. Each table formed a group and a word was named. Each group had to make up a song using said word and sing it. After three rounds, the winners were declared, the game ended and clean up started.

And so, an evening full of fun came to an end! Special thanks to the Planning committee and all the members and adults whose hard work made this possible! I am already looking forward to next year’s potluck! I hope you are too!
