Believe it or not, it’s time to think about our 2018 Lucky
Clovers Camping trip which will be June 23rd-June 25th at
one of the campsites described below.
Next month Ms. Guerra and I will be sending out a survey form to
determine where we will be camping in 2018.
Read the brief descriptions below to get a preview of your choices and
start getting excited about camping in 2018!
Brunswick Family
Campground is on a secluded stretch of land between the Potomac River and
the C&O Canal National Historical Park in Frederick County, Maryland. The
Canal’s scenic towpath winds past the campground and provides the only road access
to this riverfront campground. So sit back, and enjoy the scenic views of Short
Hill Mountain, the Potomac River, great blue herons and the occasional eagle
that passes by. Tent camping and RV sites are available
early spring through late fall. Lovers of the outdoors and American history
will find an abundance to do within 10-30 minutes of Brunswick, MD. Three
additional national parks make for great areas of exploration. Kids and adults
alike will enjoy visiting Antietam National Park, Harpers Ferry National Park
and hiking along sections of the famous Appalachian Trail. Whitewater
rafting, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, teambuilding,
and canopy tours are available close by. River & Trail Outfitters offers
a 10% discount on all tours except the canopy tour for all campers.
Camp Misty Mount
is located in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. The historic stone and wood
cabins were built in 1936 as part of a federal Great Depression-era jobs plan
to build recreational camps.
Camp Misty Mount is surrounded by hardwood forests on the
slopes of Catoctin Mountain Park. The region is part of the Blue Ridge Province
and offers scenic mountain views and clear streams.
Kids love the camp's swimming pool, open from late May
through early September. The trailhead for Wolf Rock is a short walk from the
camp, pleasing both hikers and rock climbers. Wolf Rock is the only part of the
park that allows both rock climbing and rappelling.
Cabins are rustic, providing basic metal cots, mattresses,
and overhead lighting. Cabin capacities range from four to eight people. No
electric outlets are available; however, hot showers, flush toilets and
drinking water are located inside each campsite loop.
Rocky Gap State Park is
located in Western Maryland’s Allegany County.
The park encompasses over 3,000 acres of public land for visitors to
enjoy. Rugged mountains surround the park, featuring 243-acre Lake Habeeb. The
lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run, which winds its way through an impressive
mile-long gorge, displaying sheer cliffs, overlooks and a hemlock forest dense
with rhododendron and mountain laurel. Rocky Gap Campground offers 278
individual campsites (including 30 equipped with 30 amp electric hook-ups, Mini
Cabin and Yurt Options), a family group site and two youth group camping areas.
The campground also features a dump station, bathhouses with hot water in each
loop, the Scales & Tales Aviary, canoe/kayak/SUP board rentals
(Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day), a nature center, a private swimming beach,
a playground, trail access, Snack Shack and a camp store.
The Family Group Site offers space for up to 40 people to
camp together. The group site includes a two-story Mini Cabin with electric, as
well as six 30 amp electric hookups and a group fire ring. Bathhouses are
located in the adjacent camp loops.
Woodlands Camping
Resort is located in the heart of the Elk Neck State Forest near the Elk
River and Upper Chesapeake Bay. Woodlands Camping Resort offers its campers
many options. From full hook-up sites, seasonal sites, rental cabins and
trailer, we can accommodate any camper’s need or preference.
Cabin amenities include full size bed with mattress, set of
bunk beds with mattresses, electricity, 1 fan, 1 window air conditioner, 1
small refrigerator, 1 picnic table, 1 fire ring, 1 charcoal barbecue grill,
cold water spigot outside, 2 porch chairs, and a broom and dustpan. Cabins do
not include any kitchen appliances (cooking not permitted in cabins), cable or
satellite hook-ups, TV, radio, Wi-Fi, sheets, pillows, blankets, inside
furniture, or closets.
Local attractions include local orchard, Go Ape ziplines,
kayaks, nearby family-owned vineyards, basket factory, and the south Chesapeake
waterfront.
