The 4-HCentral Cluster hosted a sewing workshop at the Howard County Fairground on January 15, 2018. Our friend Ayla, her brother Eric, and ourselves (Katja and Bettina) participated from our club Lucky Clovers in that event.We made the pillowcases for kids who have cancer, and have to in the hospital. Usually their hospital rooms are boring, so we wanted to do something that stood out. All pillowcases are donated to Cases for Smiles Foundation, an organization that has been doing this for many years. This 4-H sewing workshop takes places every year, always on the same date. Also, since the Foundation accepts pillowcase all year long, 4-Hers could organize themselves a get together to sew more pillowcases for these children if they wanted to do themselves a community service project.When we arrived to the workshop, the organizers had had already cut and measured the fabric, so the only thing we had to do was to sew the pieces together to make the pillows. There were many sewing machines available, and some of the families who helped also brought their ones. The last year they had made 56. This year, we made 37, but we think it was because there were less people this time. All the pillowcases were bright and colorful. It was a fun experience, and we want to come back next year!
