Painting kindness rocks in WondeRoom

Have you
ever wondered if you could use a stone as a canvas? The wondeRoom proved to us
that precisely this is possible by hosting a rock painting activity on November
18, 2018. The wonder room is situated in the Sandy Spring museum which is open
to everyone and is filled with awe-inspiring exhibits. In the wonder room,
which is at the back of the building, multiple children’s activities are
hosted throughout the month. This time, -it was rock painting! It was four
hours filled with fun, laughter, talk, and lots and lots of paint.
We arrived
to the wondeRoom and were greeted by a crowd of children that were painting
rocks on different tables. There were multiple 4-Hers there: The Martin family,
the Charlery, the Barnes Ware, the
Guernsey, the Justin families, and myself. There were two different batches of
rocks: Dark gray to black rocks and chalk white rocks. The rocks were round and
smooth. Some rocks were oval and so smooth that you could massage your face
with them. The materials were acrylic paints in a whole range of colors and
also a set of paint pens, which I must say were very fun to use. Children had
the choice of either painting rocks or posters.
We helped
the children out by showing them where the paints and the rocks were. They
painted an array of different rocks. The 4-Hers also joined in. They covered
them with different designs ranging from rainbows to clovers. The objective was
to paint Kindness Rocks: one for you, and one to give as a gift to someone
else! A small gesture of kindness. At the end of the event, everyone got to take their rocks home.
During the
painting breaks, everyone got a chance to explore the museum and all its
exhibits. Thus a fun event came to an end. Thanks to the people who organized
this event. We look forward to the next one!
Holiday Party at Sandy Spring Museum

Happy Holidays! On
Sunday, December 2nd, Lucky Clovers, Seth Martin and Mia Barnes,
aided by Mrs. Martin, made holiday ornaments and jewelry for kids attending the
Sandy Spring Museum’s 3rd annual Holiday
Party. Hundreds of kids came through to enjoy the treats and hot
chocolate provided by the Museum and to visit Santa Claus!
Lucky Clovers also got
to show off the Kindness Rocks from their recent takeover of the Museum’s
WondeRoom, a room dedicated to youth arts and crafts.
The next WondeRoom takeover
will be on Sunday, December 16th and we will create “lights”
for the holiday season. Join us and
